Heh

Whew..this blog really pissed me off the day I tried to post a youtube vid on it. I was so frustrated with it I just ignored it. Then last week when I logged onto blogger I found they had something new called widgets. One of the widget features are youtube vids so I decided maybe I can use that to post the video I had wanted to post on my blog ages ago. So when I went to look for these widget features and how to use them blogger says I must "upgrade" first. It was involved..least to me that's what it seemed like, and in the end I gave up again - glad that i hadn't tried it on my main blog.
I guess boredom bought me back here and I decided to give it another shot. I'm still not sure how to use the widget features but I did figure out how to get the youtube video on and have it looking decent.. heh for those of you who witnessed the earlier mess I had made you'd agree ;)
Btw: I know the previous post has nothing to do with the roads of UAE but it has to do with cars so I decided to post it here..

Evening stroll anyone?

Dang, forgot to switch camera to night mode for this shot.... Head held high in "to hell with the world" attitude, this bold camel had just finished crossing the Dhaid-Sharjah highway we were driving on. I was in the car with my bro and sis. My sis suggested to my bro (who snapped this shot) that we pull over and he go pose next to the camel while she snaps a pic of them...
Evidence in fact that I have no such shot, it goes without saying that the suggestion was declined !

Donkey in the road!

Was driving along a semi-dirt road in Thaid when this guy caught my eye. "Quick! Where's the camera..." Don't ask why, I just felt the sudden urge to snap a shot of the frightened beast (lol he was about to run off when we pulled up beside him in the SUV). Besides it's not everyday one is driving along and happens to see a wild donkey!
He's actually pretty cute if u only take in the head shot =P
If they ever decide to make a live action movie Shrek, this donkey would be perfect....

They need more than yoga...

Road rage lessons

Ha ha! They have the nerve to get angry. They would cut an 18-wheeler TRUCK off in attempt to get to a potential passenger they happened to spot way the heck across the road ! I was driving one day, must I always add that I WAS minding my business.... anywayz. I was behind one of those 'meter' Camry taxis. He had to be doing about 100kmph. Can't say I wasn't guilty being right up behind him close to 90 myself but that's not the point I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE AFTER ALL. Anywayz the right lane had quite a few cars so even if i wanted to speed cutting around him wasn't an option. I felt lucky enough that he wasn't crawling at 40 kmph! But then it had to happen.... suddenly he stops. My first thought at the time was that maybe something was in the road, heck didn't have time to dwell much on that cuz the El Hazard moblie was doing 90 and a few feet from that monkey... seemed almost impossible to stop. "Not another accident in mother's car (yeah I just admitted I drive my mom's car...how many of us could deny having started out in a parent's car =P and for any that may be wondering... I've had 2 in accidents in said car- none of which was my fault...though mom doesn't really believe that. Hmph! do they ever believe us?! hmmm well I mean yeah if ur a guy and happen to be ur mom's son then yeah she believes every word that comes out of ur mouth, try being a daughter though and u become quickly acquainted with the many forms a mother could say 'Yeah right' without actually using those two words and in most cases not even using her mouth at all! ) lucky for El Hazard and the (EH Moblie) that God sends miracles.... As for that taxi driver, well he's just lucky I'm a lady. Once I was able to stop I noticed two ppl standing on the side of the road- obviously the taxi's potential passengers. Jerk. Let him do that with an 18-Wheeler behind him one of these days (hopefully when he's not carrying innocent passengers), if he's a grateful soul at least he'd be thankful for the free ride back to his country - even if it is in a CASKET!

The moment you've all been waiting for....

...And the prestigious 2006 S.C.A.R* award goes to the brilliant man and woman duo on the bike...
Dang, had i not been so 'appalled' and driving at the time, I would have grabbed up my mobile phone on the dashboard of the car and snapped a pic..
El Hazard's mere description of the duo should have to suffice u folks..
(Words are hardly credible as a pic would be ::confounded frown::)
Driving along (in Sharjah) I notice a guy on a bike riding along in the street (minding his business I'll concede) with a package of some sort on the back. Hmmmm not sure what to call that thingy in the back though, it's like the part of the bike before adding a basket/small crate. Upon doing a double-take i realize it's not a package but a person. Not so bad, it's not like El Hazard hasn't seen ppl double up on a bike... this though beat all (even the hindi man on the motorbike with his wife and baby hanging on behind him!) the second person on the bike seated sideways (in the fashion of the way women *ahem* ladies from between the 15th and 19th centuries rode horses - side saddle) was a woman. Ok even a woman wouldn't have been much of a deal (hardly worthy of the SCAR award) but this woman was wearing full hijab..complete with niqab. Really now. (awina M.J's wearing of it wasn't bad enough!)

From this I've learnt 2 - not just 1- very important things :

  1. Always keep my phone in camera mode when out even for the shortest of drives (Be ready for anything and everything in other words....)
  2. Wear my hijab proudly and pray I never bring such shame to it !

SHEEEEEMOTAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

My squeaky clean reputation is ruined! RUINED I SAY! Oh GOD......
Well the devil made me do it.... yes that sounds loads better. .the devil in the form of a Corolla is responsible for this...
Heck, I may as well confess to the blatant crime though....
Dare I say I was minding my own business in the extreme left lane *trying to do the speed limit* on the Corniche road when i suddenly notice this Corolla going EXTREMELY slow (must've been crawling at 15kmph) in said left lane. Normally i'd have gone around the dude but there was like no space. I was planning to go left and the roundabout was right there. When I'm late I have zero patience for sickling drivers. It was bad enough I was a good half an hour late for picking up my sis (it was 6:30) she was 20 min drive away and had to be at Basketball practice at 7. I was very close to getting out and putting the fool out of his/ her miseries with my shayla (use ur imagination muwhahahahhaha). Grrrrr, this person was really irritating and being short on time there was absolutely no considering wasting any of it irritating the fool back so the only other option was to flash 'em. Yeah I admit I'm the first one to condemn flashing as the stupidest thing, I mean really, go around it's not like changing lanes is difficult... lachin in that moment of madness all rational thoughts were out and El Hazard was seriously pissed with this arrogant corolla refusing to move ( Like I said, I would have gladly cut around the sickling and let him eat tire dust if the situation were different. ) So yes at that moment I gave that Coonie (and yes it is very coonie to crawl in the left lane when all the other lanes are EMPTY) a righteous flashing. (Hey I still hold firm to my belief that it's pure stupidty but in the end it's irritating when the driver behind flashes ya) Not that it seemed to make a damn difference to him/her. And to think i threw away such a reputation of never having flashed a single "chalba" on such a worthless sickling! That coonie should be HONORED that I did it on his/her account...
Amazing how a bit of idiotic ranting can calm a person so.....
As for my rep, I'll have to start a new one......
